Academic Lead (Sound and Vision)
I joined the University of Portsmouth in 2007 and have over 20 years experience of lecturing, curriculum development and Course Leadership. I am currently a Principal lecturer in Music & Sound Technology and Section Lead for the Media, Audio and Graphics section in the School of Creative Technologies, which includes Digital Media, Virtual Reality and Creative Media Technologies.
I am an active musician, composer, sound designer and engineer and was previously Head of the Music Department at Northbrook College, Sussex
My current research applies perceptual analysis models to generate structural descriptions of music, which are then used as meta-templates to generate new algorithmic compositions.
I am Course Leader for our BSc(Hons) Music and Sound Technology and BSc(Hons) Music Computing courses and also lecture on BSc(Hons) Digital Media, BSc(Hons) Creative Media Technology and MSc Music Technology courses.
My lecturing focuses on the creative use of technology, I lecture and lead modules in Creative Coding Practice, Creative Music Technology and Sound Design and Music for Games, am a Wwise Certified Instructor and have previously taught composition and studio recording modules.
