Biography

Dr Panagiota (Melita) Sidiropoulou is a part-time lecturer at the School of Education and Continuing Studies of the University of Portsmouth, and a part-time Senior Research Associate at the Department for Curriculum and Quality Enhancement of the same university.

As a lecturer Melita is responsible for dissertation supervision and lecturing in various units. These include: Research with Children and Young People; Family and Social Environments; Developing Professional Perspectives; Diversity and Inclusion; Health and Well-being of Children and Young People; and Education Society and the Curriculum. Her PhD at the University of Edinburgh -published both in Greek and English-  and other publications focused on new education policies, school curricula changes, and the significance of arts education. Melita’s research interests include education policy, philosophy of education, arts education, and character education.

Furthermore, in her role as the Institutional Researcher for the University of Portsmouth, Melita contributes to the Postgraduate Experience Project, which is funded by the HEFCE Postgraduate Support Scheme. The project entitled: "Investigating the expectations and attitudes towards postgraduate taught (PGT) STEM study, and post study outcomes from the perspective of students, universities and employers to support and sustain PGT growth in the UK" is a collaborative project which she is currently working on, and was started in January 2014. It is due to report the majority of its findings at a National Dialogical Conference at Kingston University on 14th and 15th July 2015.

Melita believes that good education is one of the most powerful and worthwhile forces in today's world.  It is her passion to improve and promote opportunities for such an education.
