Summary

Dr Nigel L. Williams, PMP is the Reader in Project Management in the Organizations and Systems Management Subject Group at the University of Portsmouth.

Biography

Before joining academia, I worked for 15 years as a Manager and Business Consultant for enterprises in the Caribbean Region.  I hold a PhD in Engineering from the University of Cambridge. He also holds a BSc  in Mechanical Engineering and an MSc in Marketing  from the University of the West Indies. Since joining academia, I have linked education, research and professional practice. My research has examined stakeholder interactions using social network analysis, project capacity of organizations in post conflict countries and the evolution of project capabilities in organizations.

Research Interests

More recently, I have worked with Dr Karen Thompson and professional associations to develop the area of Responsible Project Management (ResponsiblePM.com). The RPM team works with academia (UK, Europe and Asia), industry associations (APM & PMI) and NGOs (Association for sustainability practitioners) to  develop the competencies needed by current and future project managers.  We have engaged in a collaborative program of education, research and public engagement in the form of the Responsible PM Forum (2018 and 2019), the development of a guide to Responsible Project Management and a Manifesto that has encouraged researchers and practitioners to incorporate sustainability into their current practice. This initiative has been a success to date with a number of collaborative events along with adoption of the guide at universities in Europe and Asia.

Teaching Responsibilities
