Dr Paul Norman
Head of Institute of Criminal Justice Studies
As Head of School within the Institute of Criminal Justice Studies, Paul now leads on strategy and academemic line mangement. Previous roles have included Associate Head (Academic), Lead on Curriculum, Strategic Lead on International Development (including Erasmus+), and strategic oversight of the deployment of learning technologies in all awards.
As Strategic Lead on International Development, Paul led ICJS’s "internationalisation strategy" with specific work on the development of EU Erasmus+ Staff and Student Mobility partnerships with Norway, Malta, Germany, and outside the EU with South Korea and Canada. Wider development activities including capacity-building work with Portsmouth colleagues at the University of Rwanda.
With a disciplinary background in political science, Paul's personal specialist areas of expertise include counter-terrorism, international justice, international peace-keeping, crimes of the powerful, transnational offending and educational learning technologies.
On the latter, Paul's interests have included the deployment of educational technologies in online distance-learning and campus-based Higher Education; the development and deployment of enhanced reusable learning objects and the Open Educational Resources movement, and the potential contribution and responsibilities of western Higher Education systems and practitioners to collaboration and capacity building in developing countries.
