Sarah Turnbull


Sarah is a Reader in Advertising. She is the Associate Editor for The Journal of Marketing Management and on the Editorial Board for The Journal of International Advertising.

Sarah is a Freeman of The Worshipful Company of Marketors.

Sarah has been the Research Lead for the Marketing Group and has led the DBA programme for 3 years. 

Sarah is recognised nationally and internationally for her work. She is a Fellow of The Chartered Institute of Marketing, a Governor at Portsmouth High School for Girls (GDST), a fellow of the HEA, a member of the IAB Research Advisory Group and has won a number of international awards, including Emerald Best International Symposium (2014, Academy of Management, Philadelphia) and Emerald Literati Awards (2017 and 2018).

Sarah has been selected as a finalist for the 2019 GESS Awards, "Outstanding Contribution in Education Award".

Sarah's 2019 book, co-authored with Chris Fill, Marketing Communications is recognised as the authoratative text for professional courses such as those run by The Chartered Institute of Marketing, and is supported by the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising. It is seen as the, "definitive text for undergraduate and postgraduate students in marketing" (Fill & Turnbull, 2016).

Prior to her academic career Sarah worked in global advertising and was Account Director on Emirates for 8 years based in the United Arab Emirates. Her work involved extensive travel throughout the Middle East.

Sarah's reserach on advertising has been published in a number of international journals including; Journal of Business ResearchThe Journal of International AdvertisingJournal of Marketing Communications, Journal of Direct, Data and Digital Marketing Practice, The Marketing Review, Qualitative Market Research: An International Journal and Journal of Islamic Marketing.  

Sarah has a number of PhD completions and currently supervises 8 PhD students.

Sarah is a regular guest speaker. Her 2018 invited/keynote addresses include:

Sarah is a role model on the Aurora Women's Leadership Programme.
