Dr Sercan Ozcan
Dr. Sercan Ozcan is a Senior Lecturer in The Strategy, Enterprise and Innovation Subject Group at the Faculty of Business and Law. Previously he worked as an Assistant Professor at the Engineering Management Department of Bahcesehir University, Turkey. He holds a PhD in Innovation Management from Aberystwyth University, UK.
Dr Sercan Ozcan has published in the top journals of Innovation Management and Engineering Management fields. He has received various awards such as Brad Hosler Award for Outstanding Student Paper 2015, (PICMET) and ABTA Doctoral Researcher Award 2014. His PhD research was funded by Rowland’s Foundation at Aberystwyth University. His PhD was about Emerging Technologies and Collaboration Structure in Nanotechnology Innovation System working on a large patent and interview data sets using advanced text-mining techniques.
He worked as a consultant with some private and governmental organisations in various innovation management projects and also worked with business incubation centres, mentorship programs and funding agencies to help with the process of establishing innovative start-ups.
Dr Sercan Ozcan’s research interests lie in the field of Innovation Management focusing on systems of innovation models, innovation development processes, open innovation platforms and collaborative innovation activities. He has a particular interest where data mining and innovation management merges together to retrieve and analyse large scale innovation and science data. He uses tech-mining, bibliometrics and scientometrics techniques to analyse text-based data sets such as patent documents, publications and social media data. He has a particular focus on analysing emerging technologies and markets to identify innovation networks and clusters, technological trends and diffusions and, innovation performance related determinants. He welcomes students to be working under his supervision in his research interest areas and especially if they are aiming to merge innovation management with advanced big data analytics techniques.
