I am Senior Lecturer, School of Education and Continuing Studies. Course Leader for ‘BA (Hons) Childhood and Youth Studies with Psychology’ and ‘BA(Hons) Early Childhood Studies with Psychology’. Also involved in Masters and PhD supervision and research development within the School.

External Examiner BA Child and Youth Studies and Foundation Degree Early Years, NewCastle College (University of Leeds).

Research Interests

  • Qualitative research methods, e.g. Discourse Analysis and Grounded Theory, as well as Critical Realist approaches towards Qualitative Research Methods.
  • Ideologies and Dilemmas related to Early Day Care, Motherhood and Female Employment (in the Netherlands and UK).
  • Constructions of Early Childhood and the Psychology of Education.
  • Childhood obesity.
  • Perceptions of bullying (early years - secondary school).
  • Mental health.
