Professor Yuksel Ekinci
Professor of Marketing and Sales
Yuksel joined the University of Portsmouth in 2017 from Henley Business School, University of Reading, where he was Professor of Marketing and Director of Postgraduate Research for Marketing. Previously, he was at Oxford Brookes University and the University of Surrey's Business School for 14 years. Yuksel is currently teaching Global Marketing and Research Methods to postgraduate students.
As an active researcher and an international academic, since starting his academic career in the UK, Yuksel participated in the Research Excellence Framework (REF) in 2001, 2008 and 2014. His work has contributed to better understanding of consumer behaviour, business research methods and brand management in service industries. He has authored/co-authored two books, many book chapters, conference papers and peer-reviewed journal articles. His academic work was published in international marketing journals such as the European Journal of Marketing, Journal of Busines Research, Journal of Travel Research, Annals of Tourism Research, International Journal of Human Resources Management and his work has been well cited. He has supervised 18 doctoral candidates to successful completion and the dissertations of over 200 postgraduate students. He is an associate editor of the International Journal of Market Research and an editorial board member of 5 marketing/tourism journals.
Yuksel is interested in the practical side of marketing and passionate about finding answers to applied marketing problems. Prior to joining academia he worked in the hotel and tourism industry. Since then he has completed consultancy projects dealing with marketing research and international brand strategy development for public and private organisations in the UK and Europe, including Carabao, IBM, Ogilvy, BSkyB, Danish Telecom, QCi ltd and others.
