Analysis of marine fouling on graphene coated nets
Project: Innovation
- Dr Maria Salta (PI)
Description
In this project we looked at the antifouling capacity of nets that were coated with graphene.
Layman's description
Biofouling is the unwanted attachment of marine growth on man-made materials, and it constitutes one of the biggest issues in the maritime industry. The use of coatings to prevent biofouling has been historically problematic for marine life, mainly due to toxic compounds being released in the environment by certain antifouling technologies. Research is currently being directed towards environmentally friendly solutions.
Key findings
Initial results did not demonstrate antifouling capacity of the tested materials
