Green synthesis, 2D and 3D organisation of metal nanoparticles from Indian medicinal plants

Nanostructured semi-conductors with wide band gap such as ZnO and CuO have attracted increasing interest among researchers due to their promising applications in many areas of chemistry, physics, material science, biotechnology, medical technology, information technology and environmental technology as next generation technologies. However, to obtain these materials with interesting properties, the structure and the micro-structure of the elaborated nanoparticles (NPs) should be highly controlled. Thus, the challenge has usually been finding the adequate synthesis protocol for (i) an economic (ii) controlled (iii) reproduced and (iv) environmentally acceptable elaboration of these materials which facilitate their use in industrial and medical fields.
In our work group, we have already succeeded to elaborate ZnO NPs with controlled morphology using the co-precipitation method (Sangeetha et al., 2011, 2012). The main objectives of this project are:
(i) Economic and eco-friendly synthesis of shape and size controlled ZnO and CuO NPs,
(ii)Research of the optimum conditions for 2D and 3D organization of the as-elaborated ZnO and CuO NPs,
(iii) Study of the optical, spectral and thermal properties of the as-elaborated ZnO and CuO NPs.
