Transforming Regionalism: Security Politics and the 'Remaking' of West Africa
Project: Other
- Elisa Lopez Lucia (PI)
- Professor Tony Chafer (PI)
Description
This project explores how current policy knowledge on regional networks of organised crime and terrorism in West Africa is negotiated by local and international actors, and shapes policy responses. Recent responses promote the use of flexible security coalitions of states which challenge the post-colonial organisation of space embodied by the primacy of the Economic Community of West African States. Studying this production of knowledge through ethnographic methods, this project contributes to a decolonisation of security studies by highlighting the variety of systems of knowledges used by actors and their positions in the negotiation, thereby challenging the dominant security policy narrative.
