An integrated approach to the assessment of slope stability in urban areas in Hong Kong using thematic maps

Research output: Contribution to conferencePaperpeer-review

This paper describes the development and use of thematic maps for an integrated study of a large number of cut slopes and natural terrain within two urban areas of Hong Kong Island. The study was carried out following two fatal landslides of cut slopes within these areas in August 1995. The study identified a number of slopes with geological features similar to those at the two fatal landslide sites. The paper outlines how an integrated study of an area can be used to highlight the locations of slopes that may have potential geological conditions adverse to stability.
