Comparison of Newtonian and non-Newtonian oscillatory flows using the lattice Boltzmann method

The lattice Boltzmann method incorporating a Casson non-Newtonian viscosity model for blood is used to compare two-dimensional Newtonian and non-Newtonian oscillatory flow simulations at Reynold's and Womersley's numbers corresponding to aorta and brachial artery blood flows. It is found that in both cases the Newtonian and non- Newtonian shear profiles exhibit differences, particularly near the vessel walls. This has implications for arterial simulations where shear stress is important.
