Introduction

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter (peer-reviewed)peer-review

This introduction provides an overview of the key concepts discussed in this book. The book works in a more speculative way and opens up the definition of informal to the specific field of architecture rather than the city. It is aimed at unraveling how the concept of Informality could be regarded as a subtle link between contemporary architecture discussions and the city. The book explores the informal hypothesis as an opportunity aimed at resilience to redefine the paradigms of human coexistence and the urban fabric in times of global crises. This position is considered here as a consequence of the failure of the deterministic approach to town planning as the default mode of colonisation of the planet and leads to the study of informal behavioural patterns as a contribution to resilience through an understanding of low consumption practice and coexistence with non-human species.
