La pêche migrante Ouest-Africaine: un secteur refuge à bout de souffle

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter (peer-reviewed)peer-review

The chapter shows how the migrant fishing in West Africa is today in a stalemate. After a phase of development in the 1970s and 1980s, it skillfully by-passes the political conflicts of the 1990s and pursues its regional extension. Depletion of fish stocks in major fishing areas forces, from the mid-1990s, migratory fishery to go even further and take on board outcasts fishermen operating in sedentary fisheries. Its absorption capacity seems to have reached its limits recently since almost all marine resources on traditional fishing grounds are over-exploited. This, especially that no management measure frame, for the moment, West African migrant fishing activities.
