The main objectives of this chapter are:
- to place the recruitment and selection process within the wider context of human resource planning and the options organizations have to choose from when vacancies occur;
- to evaluate the main approaches used by organizations when recruiting and selecting employees and to critique the underpinning assumptions made by recruiters that inform their decisions;
- to examine the relationship between recruitment and selection and HRM, appreciating the importance of these activities to business performance and the attainment of organizational goals.
