Ritual Reconstructed: Purim Spiel: digital documentary; ethnographic film, musical performance
Research output: Non-textual form › Artefact
A reenactment of a self-conscious gay reworking of the traditional Purim Spiel. Originally written by gay Londoners in 1985, the script was reenacted as a performed reading in 2015 to see what would happen when the cast shifted from AIDS era gay Jewish men to post AIDS era women and men, straight as well as gay.
The writer of the original work reflects in interview of the intervening years and the experiences of LGBT+ Jews in the UK.
