Rule-based system to assist a powered wheelchair driver

Simple rule based techniques are presented to assist powered wheelchair drivers. A driver is included as much as possible while a sensor system assists by avoiding obstacles and tending to turn to point towards their target destination. The angle to turn towards a destination becomes an input along with a joystick and the sensors. Recommended directions are suggested and they are mixed with speed and direction inputs from the joystick. The rule-based system provides a suggested angle to turn the powered wheelchair and that is mixed with inputs from a joystick to help a wheelchair user to drive a powered wheelchair.
