Torst Bilown: Soundscape
Research output: Non-textual form › Composition
Torst Bilown - Soundscape was commission by 'Bristol Green Capital 2015' and first performed at Colston Hall on December 6, 2015.
The piece utilises field recordings of the city alongside harmonic impulse responses in order to create a structured soundscape during which the 'sounds of a city' are gradually morphed in to the 'sounds of the ocean'. The piece responds to the themes of 'Bristol Green Capital 2015' through reflecting on similarities between the 'white noise' of the city and the 'white noise' of non-urban environments. The harmonic architecthonic of the soundscape is constructed using the same pitch arrays utilised in the piece of the same name composed for Symphony Orchestra as part of the overall commissioning project.
